Since there are a multitude of different kinds of vamps in every literary work, and in every media style available, here you will find a general MUST KNOW about the vampires in this world.
1) Sunlight: Harmful to newly turned vampires, enough exposure will kill them. As a vampire age’s sunlight becomes less dangerous but is still harmful. If a vampire is caught within direct sunlight for any extended period of time, they will die.
Senses: Vampires have a heightened sense of smell. When fanged out they have heightened sight and hearing. They do not have increased speed, but extreme increase to reflexes.
Strength: Increase in strength at all times.
Eyes: After being turned the eyes are a dull hue of what they were before. The iris becomes red as blood when a vampire is fanged out.
Fangs: Retractable top canines, that elongate when ready to feed. Blood is drawn directly into the fang, then in to the blood stream.
Saliva: Possesses some healing qualities, useful when being discreet while feeding.
Fire: More hazardous to vampires.
Religious symbols: The affect wares as a vampire ages, still causes discomfort and pain.
Healing: Vampires heal during sleep and in total darkness.
Shape-changing: A vampire past the general age of 400 is able to shape change; the ability can come natural to others depending on bloodline. The change is instinctual.
A Human can be bitten without being turned. In order to turn a human blood must be exchanged from the vampire. The change is immediate, and is extremely painful. There is a high possibility of blood rejection during transformation, and a chance of death. A newer vampire’s blood has a higher risk being rejected.
Garlic and other strongly spiced things are extremely irritable due to the heightened senses, but are not actually harmful. Wooden stakes to the heart do kill. Silver will burn, and in some cases ignite a vampire, but it does not kill. Holy water severely burns, and the healing process takes longer.
Purebloods are vampires that are either from the Dracula bloodline, or have been birthed from two vampires. In order for a vampire birthing to succeed they must be in a place of complete darkness. After the birth the newborn must feed constantly, before the creation of synthetic blood, towns were usually targeted.
A Pureblood vampire has the ability to see memories while drinking a victim’s blood. This skill takes time to develop, at first the memories are scattered, and hard to follow, but as the vampire ages they gain the ability to read the memories much clearer.
